Pixilation Project Filming and post production For this project we were tasked in creating a short film using the pixilation method. I go into further detail in a another post but to put it simply pixilation is a style of stop motion animation  in which real people and objects are used to achieve effects that are not possible in real life. All scenes in order of appearance- For this scene I wanted to give the idea of it a dreary day. The rain effect was done using paper cutouts of raindrops and manually moving them for each scene. This was done simply because I was still quite new to software like After Effects and I really love working with paper. To achieve this scene a placed my tripod where I wanted and using a Bluetooth clicker I was able to take a shot each time a took a step forward without having to use a timer. This scene was a joy to create as a lot of  the extra details were done of the fly. Not exactly a a professional way of doing things but i...

Pixilation Project Technique and Ideation For my first project of this semester I have to create a pixilation film with theme of 'the day in the life...' , the film needs to be at least 15 to 30 seconds long   and have sound   but what is pixilation? Pixilation is a subsect of stop motion in which real people are incorporated into the the film which allows for people in interact with the surrounding environment in ways that aren't feasible in real life. Though it was rarely used and even when it was it most likely used a form of special effects. The style of animation began to gain traction around 1950's with  Norman McLaren's anti-war film ' Neighbours' (1952)   Norman McLaren had a very experimental method of making films which sound played an important role, this is no different has there is no dialogue throughout the duration of the short meaning that a lot of the emotions of the characters are conveyed through and combination of motion, expression an...

Semester 2- Learning aims and Personal goals Semester 1 has come and gone. With some of the basics gone over this semester I'll be going over more of the principles of  animation while getting a better understanding of both the artistic and commercial aspects of animation. This semester will also introduce 3d animation/game design through the Maya software (though I also know blender just in case) and stop motion animation using methods such as found objects, paper cut outs and if everything goes to plan, hopefully plasticine too.  Our module aims include: To learn and understand various methods, techniques and software used in animation industry. Plan out a public screening of work produced within a team. Use planning, research and team work skills to help navigate issues that commonly arise during the production of a public screening. Show that I am capable of planning, researching and communicating my ideas and development process. Produce wor...

Reflections on the Year

Reflections on the year and what I have been up too Hello, firstly I just want to apologise that I haven't been updating my blog like I should, I am still quite nervous on putting myself out there especially with my work flow and time management being quite rough. Secondly , I want to be the first to say that I know my work hasn't been up to standard. My usual method during college would be to follow the brief as sort of a loose guide and do most of my work in the building itself rather than get distracted at home. And while I want to get back into using this method in my university work I still have so much to catch up on that it's not going to be easy. With that all off my chest Let's talk about all the work I 've done since that last post, not including some of my After Effects exercises. PERSONALITY WALK The first task on the is it is a basic walk cycle. Seems simple enough right? It is, so long has you remember that monkeys aren't supposed to fly of course....
